Even without Interbike in 2019, Clever Standard’s Tomo Ichikawa has been hard at work inventing multi-use, innovative tools.
In years past, he’s invented the Clever Standard tire levers that double as chain quick link pliers, the diminutive No Speed Limit chain breaker and the phone-stand tire lever.
Now the brainiac has unveiled the patented Clever Standard “Flatout” multi-use tire lever that was on display at the KMC Chain booth at Eurobike.
First and foremost it’s a new tire lever that also de-tensions the chain for easy quick link removal. That’s only two of the functions, however.
Here’s what it can do.
- Chain hook
- Quick-link storage (KMC, SRAM, Shimano)
- Valve core wrench
- Chain catcher
- Tire lever
- Bottle opener (if you stack two levers)
- Chain hammer (quick link breaker)*
- Bladed-spoke holder (if you stack two levers)
*only available from Clever Standard
The model will also be offered by KMC Chain under the name “Chain Aid” without the chain hammer feature.
Both versions should be available in a few weeks, and will retail for $3.99 per lever.
Ichikawa has a short video which highlights one of the main uses of the Flatout / Chain Aid lever.
Stay tuned as we’ll put one to the test.
