The 2016 Qiansen Trophy UCI C1 cyclocross race in Yanqing Station has kicked off the 2016/2017 UCI Cyclocross season, and the first rider to strike gold was none other than American Emily Kachorek (Squid Bikes). Kachorek took the win over the Dutch duo of Ceylin Alvarado (Kleur Op Maat) and Bianca Van den Hoek (Rijwielpaleis Bilthoven). American Kathryn Cumming (Jalapeno Cycling) came in fourth.
On the men’s side, the top two UCI-ranked racers lived up to their rankings, with Belgian teammates Rob Peeters and Jens Adams (Crelan-Vastgoedservice, Belgium) going one-two. Aussie Chris Jongewaard (JBlood Adventures), fresh off his Australian Cyclocross National Championship, took third. The ageless winner of the first two Qiansen Trophy races, retired Dutch racer Thijs Al, hasn’t slowed down much, finishing fourth ahead of Swiss racer Marcel Wildhaber (Scott Odlo).
Two Americans broke into the top ten, with Eric Thompson (Hed Cycling p/b Molten Speed Wax) and Steve Fisher (McGovern Cycles) finishing ninth and tenth.
