Submit Your Race, Series or Clinic to the 2011-2012 Cyclocross Magazine Calendar

It’s that time of year again: time to start looking at cyclocross clinics, and time to start planning your race schedule for the Fall. Cyclocross Magazine will be publishing our 2011-2012 cyclocross calendar, complete with all races, clinics and cyclocross-specific events. However, while we will try to add as many races and clinics as we can, the best way to make sure that your event is listed on our calendar is to use our Submission Form and add your event, so it will go directly onto our calendar.

New Zealand Runs Third Cyclocross Championship

It’s always cyclocross season somewhere, and last weekend, that somewhere was New Zealand, where the AJ Hackett Bungy NZ Cyclocross Championships were held. Put on by the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club, the race had some interesting terrain and some fantastic race pictures. The winners of the day were Dan Warren and Anja McDonald, and hopefully we’ll be seeing more from racers in the other hemisphere this season.

USADA Sanctions Cyclist Lisban Quintero For Doping Violation

USADA Lisban Quintero announced today that Columbian athlete Lisban Quintero of New York has been sanctioned for “anabolic agents.” Quintero raced on the road but also competed in cyclocross, including racing for 47th behind Ryan Trebon at the 2009 Mercer Cup USGP race and 20th behind Valentin Scherz at the 2010 HPCX race. Quintero was quoted at Velonews as saying ” I really enjoy training. My father taught me that when it comes to training, quality is more important than quantity.”

Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 1, 2011) USADA announced today that Lisban Quintero of New York, New York, an athlete in the sport of Cycling, has tested positive for a prohibited substance and accepted a suspension for his doping offense.

USA Cycling Implements New System for Start Order at Nationals

USA Cycling has tried different methods for establishing start orders for National Championships the past few years. While Elite racers have a UCI point system that makes ranking and positioning easy, non-UCI and age-based racers first endured the “race to registration” – whereby the front row was determined by the previous year’s results, but everyone else got their spot on the grid based on when they signed up online – then for 2010 had a time trial the day before the main event determine lineup.

USAC has talked about implementing a point system for non-UCI races for a while now,

Eligibility Guidelines for 2012 Masters Cyclocross World Championships Set

Tour of Belgium: As Seen Through Cyclocrossers’ Eyes

A Telenet-Fidea jersey tucked in behind Tom Boonen’s Quickstep jersey in a sprint. Or a BKCP-Powerplus jersey wedged between Philippe Gilbert and André Greipel’s Omega Pharma-Lotto jerseys while shooting through a tight turn at over 30mph. These rarities can only be found in one professional cycling event – the Tour of Belgium, a five day stage race that weaves its way through Belgium’s countryside. [More…]

Since 2006, cyclocross racers have been taking the start of this event. Back then, it was only a handful of cross riders such as Sven Nys, Richard Groenendaal, Lars Boom and Sven Vanthourenhout. The cross racer count has since grown to about twenty coming from four teams – BKCP-Powerplus, Sunweb-Revor, Landbouwkrediet, and Telenet-Fidea.

Bart Wellens Commits to Race Rad Racing GP, Star Crossed UPDATED: Official Press Release

Bart Wellens, Telenet-Fidea’s cyclocross star, has officially signed to race the Rad Racing GP, promoter Jim Brown told Cyclocross Magazine on Saturday in Seattle. The Belgian cyclocross veteran has also been confirmed to be contesting StarCrossed, the second race of the Cross After Dark series, the night before.

The two-time Elite Cyclocross World Champion and three-time U23 Cyclocross World Champion will be making his first trip to American soil to race cyclocross this September, and is expected to have teammate Rob Peters in tow as the two follow Frenchman Francis Mourey’s successful season-opening schedule of 2010 by contesting CrossVegas, StarCrossed, Rad Racing GP and the first weekend of the USGP in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

We just wanted to give an update to the folks who read Todd Wells’ appeal for votes in the GOOD.is competition to Reinvent the Outdoors, and then voted for him and the Sonoran Desert Mountain Bikers. Wells’ mission was to aid SDMB in protecting, growing, and preserving mountain bike trails, and we are happy to say, Mission Completed.
