Pro Cyclocross Rumors & Rumblings Week of September 23rd, 2011

The American ’cross season is in full swing with two full weekends and two Wednesday night extravaganzas completed, the European season is just getting underway and now the first USGP is here. It really is ’cross season. Sometimes I don’t believe it’s real. How can the best bike racing season, which we’ve been waiting so long for really be here already? Didn’t we just finish last season? Anyways, onward we go, there is a long winter coming up and lots of rumors to talk about. In this week’s edition: Euro ’Cross is back on TV, start looking for your live feeds, folks. Kevin Pauwels takes a big win for his new team in Erpe-Mere. Zdenek Stybar will be showing off the new Quick Step rainbow stripes in Stribro this weekend. Enrico Franzoi has found a home with the Guerciotti team, he lines up for the first time this weekend in Switzerland. Is it true that Pro ’crossers actually understand the worth of their equipment? At least Tom Meeusen does. Amy Dombroski heads back to her motherland for the season. With a venerable “who’s who” of ’cross lining up in Sun Prairie this weekend, is there really a favorite? Who should we talk about in this week’s Working Man’ Edition? We’ll go with Justin Lindine, Jake Wells, Bryan Fawley, and Chris Sheppard

The Night Weasels Cometh: October 5th

The Night Weasels Cometh is a grassroots cyclocross race that will take place Wednesday, October 5th 2011 under the lights at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, MA. The Night Weasels is held in between two of New England’s biggest cyclo-cross races, and these three events in a seven-day span were dubbed the “Holy Week” of cyclo-cross last year. The other two races, Gloucester and Providence, are the first two races in the Shimano New England Professional Cyclo-cross Series Presented by Verge. They draw the nation’s top professional and amateur racers, with fields of up to 2,000 racers.

Bazin and Dombroski Solo to Victory in Vermont in Green Mountain UCI Race

The UCI racing season in New England kicked off today at the Green Mountain Cyclocross Weekend in Williston, Vermont. The calendar is packed this season and the first victories were taken by local hero Amy Dombroski (Crankbrothers Race Club) and visiting Frenchman Nicolas Bazin (Team Big-Mat Auber 93). Day 1 of Green Mountain was won by Justin Lindine and Crystal Anthony.

Charm City: Euros Wyman and Field Continue the European UCI Points Grab

Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland, has been hot and dry for the fast few years, which makes sense since as the second race weekend of the season, it’s still practically summertime. However, in keeping with the streak of bad weather on the East Coast for the past month, the race opened with a chilly, drizzling morning: perfect cyclocross weather. Racers and spectators alike complained about the cooler conditions, since this early in the season, the legwarmers are still buried in attics and basements. However, the cooler weather didn’t seem to hurt the Euro visitors, and Helen Wyman and Ian Field repeated their winning performances from last week at Nittany Lion Cross.
