For some, the appeal of a gravel race is not a chance for glory but a sense of adventure.
The Rock Cobbler gravel race in California certainly aims to satisfy those looking for adventure.
Its event description is: “The Rock Cobbler is a stupidly hard thrill ride bordering on a race. It was conceived by madmen.”
“The Rock Cobbler is a stupidly hard thrill ride bordering on a race. It was conceived by madmen.”
Despite the foreboding description and images backing those claims up, this year, several Rock Cobbler gravel race attendees found more adventure than they bargained for thanks to a territorial bull.
Riders ventured into a choose-your-own-adventure section of the course, with most staying on the dirt road. One racer opted for a different route, buzzing a bull who wasn’t appreciative of the attention. See the scary aftermath in the video below.
At least one other rider, wearing a Gravel Bike California jersey, had a run-in with the bull out on the course.
We hope all riders involved are not hurt.
We reached out to the promoter to learn more about the scary incidents. Stay tuned.
Sam Ames asked before the event, “What could go wrong?”
We think now he has his answer!
