Interbike attendees came out in force to watch Cross Vegas, and the venue and racers did not disappoint. The course was a serpentine, all-grass course with numerous hairpins and short climbs and descents, much viewable from one spot on the hill.

In the women’s race, Katie Compton and Lyne Bessette battled for most the race, quickly gapping the rest of the field. Compton wasn’t her usual dominant self, having suffered from food poisoning since Monday, but fought hard until getting dropped by Bessette late in the race. Katerina Nash and Georgia Gould rounded finished 3rd and 4th, with Alison Sydor winning a pack sprint for 5th, with Keli Emmett, Wendy Williams and Mary McConneloug , Shelly Olds and Wendy Simms close behind.

In the men’s race, much of the event resembled a grass crit, with the group as big as 11 riders leading the race. Christian Huele, Ryan Trebon, Barry Wicks, Jonathan Page, Tim Johnson, and Jeremy Powers all took turns at the front, with Geoff Kabush, Jonathan Baker, and Davide Frattini, and Todd Wells hanging on. Huele, Wicks and Johnson launching furious attacks only to be brought back by the groups. In the end, Huele, Powers, Wicks, Trebon and Page battled going into the final lap, with Page first to pop. Trebon and Huele gapped Wicks and Powers, with Trebon sprinting to the win by a bike length, taking revenge from last week’s Star Crossed results. Powers nipped Wicks for 3rd, with Page rolling in 5th.
