Zonhoven is one of the iconic venues of cyclocross thanks to the stadium-like design around a descent into and out of a giant sand bowl. The area is known as De Kuil, which translates from Dutch as "The Pit," which is evident from a look at the scene.

Although Zonhoven is located in Belgium, the 2017 edition of Superprestige Zonhoven was dominated by the Dutch. Maud Kaptheijns (Crelan-Charles) continued her hot start to the European season by running away with the win early in the Women's race.

Mathieu van der Poel (Beobank-Corendon) did the same in the Men's race, attacking early after a slow start, by his standards, and leaving the field behind.
