Assos of Switzerland Trail Collection
Assos of Switzerland joined the party at Sea Otter by introducing off-road clothing. Assos is not new to the off-road scene, as it sponsored four-time U.S. cyclocross national champion Jonathan Page during his last professional season.
At Sea Otter 2019, we saw key pieces of their new Trail Collection, including XC bib shorts that have been tested with the BMC MTB Racing team.
The side panels have a ripstop abrasion resistant DynaRope fabric. Assos developed an off-road-specific pad that has memory foam and is set a bit further forward than their road shorts to offer padding on the steepest climbs. As with most Assos products, these are priced at the high end at $239 USD.
Another unique product aimed at the off-road cyclist is the Assos Trial Cargo baggie shorts.
These have a minimalist design with a waistband designed to be more comfortable than traditional baggies. The shorts are unlined, so Assos has a matching Trail Liner that has external seams, a floating pad and protective pads at the hips with removable dense polyurethane inserts in case you take a hard fall.
The baggies cost $149 for the Trail Cargo shorts and $139 for the Trail Liner.
