The first UCI Cyclocross World Cup at Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands kept fans and racers guessing.
The technical, sandy but fast course delivered a race that rewarded those who made the fewest mistakes, and apparently, in the Elite Women’s race, youth.

U23 women dominated the event, although Fem van Empel (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) has opted to compete in the Elites for the rest of the season.
Niel winner Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin Deceuninck) factored in the race, teaming up with Puck Pieterse to make life difficult for World Cup leader Van Empel, but made several mistakes to drop from the lead.

World Champ Marianne Vos (Jumbo Visma) climbed through the field after a second-row start, and finished fourth.
But it was the U23 trio of World Cup leader Van Empel, Pieterse and Shirin van Anrooij (Baloise Trek Lions) that took it down to the wire, with an attack by Van Anrooij down the pavement with one lap to go that made the difference in the race.

Two Americans raced, with National Champ Clara Honsinger (EF EDUCATION – TIBCO – SVB) finishing in 15th and Corey Coogan Cisek in 37th.
