With the overall X²0 Badkamers Trofee series title on the line today in Brussels, Lucinda Brand (Telenet Baloise Lions) needed to avoid mistakes and mechanicals to keep her series lead and win the overall.

Brand came into today with just a 41 second lead over Denise Betsema (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal).

The X²0 Badkamers Trofee is run like a stage race, with a cumulative overall time determining the series winner and time bonuses on the line within the race.

Betsema was on top form, coming off a victory in Saturday’s Ethias Cross in Eeklo.

Unfortunately for the 2021 Cyclocross World Champ, she couldn’t avoid either, and crossed the line banging her pedals and in tears believing she had lost the overall title to Betsema.

Fortunately for Brand, even after Betsema took a 5-second first lap bonus and finished 31 seconds ahead, the title was still hers. Brand finished with five seconds in hand for the overall series title.

 

The day’s victory belonged to Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin Fenix), who used the technical track, filled with off-cambers and stairs, to her advantage.

The victory was Alvarado’s second victory in a row, after winning last weekend’s Krawatencross thriller but skipping yesterday’s race in Eeklo.

American Rebecca Fahringer (Kona Maxxis Shimano) finished 15th, with Canadian Siobhan Kelly (Black Dog Racing) in 26th.
