A once-in-a-century pandemic, cold temperatures and a bumpy course couldn’t stop the Masters 70+ men in the fifth title race of the day at the 2021 USA Cyclocross National Championships.
Three titles were on the line with the Masters Men 70-74, 75-79 and the 85-89 races. There were no 80-84 racers, leaving the title unclaimed. (Know someone who would qualify? Bring them next year!)
Bob Fetherston completed a remarkable comeback after getting hit by a car this season. The Menlo Velo rider took his first Cyclocross National Championship in winning the 70-74 title. Fetherston was 13th in the 65-69 age group in 2019.
Jim Mueller, third at the 2017 Cyclocross Nationals in Harford in the 70-74 category, took the win today in the 75-79 race.
Fred Schmid scared everyone else away, taking yet another Cyclocross Nationals title, winning the 85-89 category.
