Just as it was in the Elite Women’s race earlier in the day, it was a high-stakes game of risk and reward at the 2021 Telenet Superprestige stop in Ruddervoorde, Belgium.

The question was could Quinten Hermans stay upright and ride to his potential? At the U.S. World Cups, when Hermans avoided mistakes that led to crashes, he won. But an early crash in Waterloo and a crash at the barriers in Iowa City took him out from the lead and contention.

While Eli Iserbyt and teammate Toon Vanderbosch took to the front on Lap One, Quinten Hermans needed a lap to make his way to the front.

Soon, it was the two World Cup winners from the States up at the front.

The two looked to be engaged in a tight battle to last the race, but suddenly, it was déjà vu to Iowa City:

Iserbyt took advantage and would not look back.

The European champ took the win and continued his impressive early-season start, with Hermans wondering what could have been once again.

Toon Aerts took third, ahead of teammate Lars van der Haar.

Most of the Elite Men now make their way to the sands of Zonhoven for Sunday’s fourth UCI Cyclocross World Cup.
