The 2021-2022 UCI Cyclocross World Cup continued today in Overijse with the 5th stop in the expanded 16-race series.
The Elite Women took to the partially cobbled course first in muddy conditions before the heavier rain that made for a messier men's race.
Two youngsters took control of the race after dropping World Cup leader Denise Betsema. Young Kata Blanka Vas and Puck Pieterse looked comfortable sliding in the mud, while veteran racers Betsema and Lucinda Brand watched them ride away.
2019 National Champ Clara Honsinger completed her typical late-race surge to finish fifth, while two pairs of riders up front battled for three podium spots.
Vas got the best of Pieterse, while Brand outkicked Betsema.
There were four Americans at the start, with Corey Coogan Cisek, Allison Arensman and Rebecca Gross all taking the start.
