The last round of the Superprestige was held in the Belgian town of Middelkerke, with the Superprestige title on the line.

In the Elite Men’s race, it was Lars van der Haar (Telenet Baloise Lions) with the holeshot.

America’s Curtis White (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) put down a very strong start as well, as he entered the field in fourth position.

With only a one-point advantage in the overall classification, Belgian Champion Sweeck (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) took the lead in the fourth of nine laps. Iserbyt, knowing what was on the line, tried to follow.

Just as on the Belgian Championships, however, Sweeck had an outstanding day, as he dropped his teammate Iserbyt and everybody else.

With three laps left, Sweeck lead with a 17-second advantage on teammates Iserbyt and Michael Vanthourenhout, with van der Haar and Toon Aerts (Telenet Baloise Lions) giving chase.

Sweeck did not slow, and just as Alvarado did earlier in the day, he triumphed and took the overall win in the Superprestige classification as well.

“I didn’t have the best feeling at the beginning of the race,” Sweeck said. “There was a lot of wind. The trick was to get away and to hope the others would look to each other. And that was the case a bit. You could tell Iserbyt and Vanthourenhout were in my team. I think Eli Iserbyt tried for a minute to go for the win. But he won quite some races already. Now I won one. In that way, it’s nicely divided. I can’t complain about my season. It’s been very nice.” (Translated, source: Sporza)

Being victorious in the Superprestige classification, Sweeck closed off his interview chugging a beer, as he had promised to the interviewer.

Aerts took second today, Sweeck’s Superprestige competitor Iserbyt took third.

After an impressive start, White finished as 34th. Kerry Werner (Kona Maxxis Shimano) finished 36th.
