Cyclocross fans were treated with an Elite Women’s race for the ages.
Belgian Sanne Cant pulled off the improbable, holding off four Dutch racers to win her third UCI Cyclocross World Championship in a row.
Cant held on to the fast-starting Denise Betsema and Annemarie Worst, and held off the resurgent duo Marianne Vos and Lucinda Brand.
The title defense changes what has been a largely disappointing season for Cant.

American Kaitie Keough finished in seventh, while Rebecca Fahringer finished 16th, U.S.-based Katerina Nash finished in 20th, Ellen Noble in 21st, Canadian Maghalie Rochette in 23rd, Samantha Runnels in 30th, U.S.-based Caroline Mani in 32nd, and National Champ Katie Compton in 34th.
