Mission Workshop’s Khyte Messenger Bag
Commuting by bike is the most time-efficient form of training. There are other positive externalities by riding your bike for errands or to work or school: you can save on gas, car maintenance, gym fees (and of course help others with cleaner air and less traffic).
Perhaps with all those benefits in mind, it’s easier to justify a $335 messenger bag. The Mission Workshop Khyte is a weatherproof messenger bag designed to carry and protect your laptop and essentials. It’s rugged, well-built and sized for commuting, not actual messengering.
There’s a laptop sleeve, a phone pocket, document pocket, smaller pockets and a large main pocket.
Not enough capacity or organization options? The bag boasts Arkiv rails that accommodate accessories. The Arkiv Tech Case is a nice add-on, as pictured in the top photo.
It will hold an iPad Mini and your chargers but adds another $110 to the price. Ouch.
I typically prefer backpacks over messenger bags due to a backpack’s ability to evenly balance a load. The Khyte might make me reconsider that preference. The bag can sit high on your back, and if you adjust the straps appropriately, the weight is nicely distributed over the bag’s surface area, as opposed to two backpack shoulder straps. The shoulder strap is wide and has a nice pad, and the stabilizer strap keeps it all in place.
It goes without saying that Mission Workshop builds all its bags in San Francisco and guarantees them forever. That adds value and starts to make the price easier to justify, whether it’s for a gift for your loved one or yourself.
MSRP: $335 bag only, $110 Tech case add-on
