The 2017 Cyclocross World Championships are over, but there’s still some more professional cyclocross racing in Europe and one big race left in Tokyo, offering racers more opportunities to show off new jerseys, collect UCI points, and put on a show for fans without all the flat tires.
At the midweek C2 Parkcross Maldegem race in Maldegem, Belgium on Wednesday, redemption was the theme of the day as both second place finishers from the Worlds Elite Men and Elite Women races found victory today. Mathieu Van Der Poel (NED) won the Elite Men’s race ahead of Michael Vanthourenhout (BEL) in second and Tim Merlier (BEL) in third. Newly crowned World Champion Wout Van Aert (BEL) took fourth. Van Der Poel even took the time to “air it out” as shown in the video below.

A couple of Americans hung out for Maldegem with Stephen Hyde finishing one spot better than his Worlds race, finishing in 17th and fellow American Kerry Werner crossed the line in 36th. Other North American racers included Canadians Michael Van Den Ham in 30th and Jeremy Martin in 38th.

Marianne Vos (NED) finished a very close second at Worlds to Sanne Cant, but Vos got her groove back today with the win. Sanne Cant (BEL) was a full minute and four seconds behind in second and Sophie De Boer (NED) finished in third.
Kaitlin Antonneau led the American women finishing in 9th, with Julie Wright in 17th, Christine Vardaros in 21st and Erin Faccone in 24th.
Second at Worlds by one second after a chain drop, Marianne Vos found redemption today.
@cyclocross awesome! Course was fast and turny, euros are super aggressive. Lots of learning!
