Even though the 2016 Cyclocross World Championships are in our rear review mirror, there’s still a good three more weeks of professional cyclocross racing in Europe and one big race left in Tokyo, offering racers more opportunities to show off new jerseys, collect UCI points, and put on a show for fans.
At the midweek C2 Parkcross Maldegem race in Maldegem, Belgium on Wednesday, two rainbow jerseys were on display on the backs of 2016 U23 World Champion Eli Iserbyt and Elite Men’s World Champion Wout van Aert. 2016 Elite Women’s World Champ Thalita de Jong did not make the start.

2015 U23 World Champion Michael Vanthourenhout took the men’s win, going clear of 2016 World Championships bronze medalist Kevin Pauwels, while 2016 World Championships bronze medalist Sanne Cant took with win ahead of Sophie de Boer.

Six North Americans plus an adopted American made the race, with Stephen Hyde finishing in 11th (one spot ahead of retiring Sven Nys), U23 Scott Smith in 26th, and Canadian Mark McConnell in 29th in the Elite Men’s race.

Elle Anderson continued her strong late season finishing in 7th, with California-based Argentine Caro Gomez Villafane finishing in 15th, Britlee Bowman finished in 16th, and Christine Vardaros in 17th in the Elite Women’s race. Full results below.
