The first day of American cyclocross is a wrap, with Jeremy Powers (Aspire) and Kaitlin Antonneau (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) breaking away and crossing the finish line solo at Ellison Park (you can find the full results of the race here).

Some of the biggest highlights of the day were the heat and the tech notes, including Dan Timmerman’s second-place finish on tubeless tires, which he opens up on in our latest interview with the newest Stan’s NoTubes rider.

Also, in a rare moment of candor in an interview, Jeremy Powers expressed his disappointment at the decision to ban feeding in cyclocross races. The heat index was 105 degrees yesterday, and racers were only allowed to rely on whatever hydration they started the race with (in jersey pockets, or on a bottle cage). [Ed. note: We’re curious if we’ll see Camelbak Racebaks or our longtime favorite collapsible Platypus bottles this season in races.]

Both men also discuss how the racing during the first day of American cyclocross played out. You can find the videos below as well as plenty of photos from the Women’s Elite and Men’s Elite races.
