OVERIJSE, BELGIUM: On a cold, wet, windy and slippery course, today’s race at Druivenveldrit Overijse was a repeat affair for the women’s podium, with Katie Compton (TREK) again escaping the clutches of Nikki Harris (Telenet-Fidea) and Sanne Cant (BKCP) to take the solo win. The difficult course and near freezing temperatures made for true cyclocross conditions, and Compton took to them immediately, separating herself from the rest of the riders on the first lap. She crashed once on the slick mud, but maintained her lead and crossed the line, hands in the air. Harris then gapped Cant for second, and the young Belgian champion took third. American Amy Dombroski had another strong race, finishing fifth, and Christine Vardaros finished in 13th.
