USA Cycling has announced the Mid-Atlantic Regional Road Development Camp for 2010. This camp is for Junior (14-18 yr old) and Espoir (19-22 yr old) athletes and will be held June 14-19, 2010 – starting on Monday afternoon and concluding on Saturday evening – and is being hosted at DeSales University in Central Valley Pennsylvania.
In its sixth consecutive year in the Mid-Atlantic states, and the second year at DeSales University, the camp offers a full complement of skills development and educational sessions, group rides and race experience all led by USA Cycling certified, professional coaches. Programs include skills sessions, endurance rides, field testing, track cycling and crit/track racing. The camp also serves as a talent identification outlet for multiple Junior cycling opportunities later in the season and will be used to identify potential riders for two upcoming stage races:
The Tour of the Red River Gorge, a 17-18 Junior UCI race in Lexington, KY, July 12-16 2010. The Tour of the Red River Gorge is the only Junior UCI stage race in the US this season, and the Mid-Atlantic camp plans to send a composite team of six riders to the event.
The Tour de L’Abitibi, a 17-18 Junior UCI “Nations Cup” race in Val-d-Or, Canada, July 19-25, 2010. The Mid-Atlantic camp plans to send two riders to a Regional Camp composite team, which will make the trip to the Great White North and parts unknown.
The regional road camp also serves as a talent ID opportunity for the Junior National Camp held in Colorado Springs each October. While this camp is one regional outlet for USA Cycling National camp talent ID, it is not the sole source or pathway to the National camp.
Cost for the camp is $750.00 for the week, which includes room, board and all instructional fees. You can also take advantage of a discount ($50.00/each) for “teammates” of 3 or more … which would bring the individual registration cost down to $700.00/athlete.
In addition to the Mid-Atlantic Camp, there are other regional camps open to riders throughout the US. To register, request eligibility or view additional information visit USAC’s Development Camp web page.
