With rain and a strong headwind, Stage 3 of the Amgen Tour of California had perfect conditions for our cyclocross contingent to shine. Stage 4, which riders will face later today, will feature some of the Tour’s major climbs, and unfortunately for our cyclocross racers, these aren’t the kind of hills they can shoulder bikes and run up.

Despite the conditions, the racers are staying in good spirits and making their moves in the race. After being in breakaways in both stages, Jamey Driscoll tweeted last night: “Thank you all for all the love, I am glad I was able to pull that off two days in a row. Tomorrow might be painful, however.”

As of the end of Stage 3, overall results for Cyclocross Magazine’s Amgen Tour of California Cyclocross Leader’s Jersey are as follows:

10 Alex Candelario (Kelly Benefit Strategies-Optum Health)
31 Tyler Wren (Jamis-Sutter Home)54 Jesse Anthony (Kelly Benefit Strategies-Optum Health)
60 Chris Jones (Team UnitedHealthcare)
81 Jeremy Powers (Jelly Belly)
101 Ben Jacques-Maynes (Bissell)
111 Lars Boom (Rabobank)
126 Andy Jacques-Maynes (Bissell)
143 Jamey Driscoll (Jamis-Sutter Home)

Jesse Anthony tweeted some cyclocross love in the last two days, saying, “The weather here in #AToC would be far less tolerable without @madalchemy chamois cream…” and, after Stage 1 was canceled due to snow, “What a day! I was amped to race, but snow and road bikes don’t mix. Next year, cyclocross stage 1 for #AToC ?”

As the Tour continues, we’ll be keeping up with these racers, so check back for updates.
