Promoters are constantly looking for ways to push the envelope, and explore new ways in which to provide a fresh experience for racing. Last weekend at the Grand Junction Off-Road Fat Tire Crit, where we saw mountain bikes tackle a paved criterium from the vantage point of Katie Compton’s seat tube.

Today, we offer a forward-looking view from the driver’s saddle of the Superenduro B Road Race, held in La Morra, Italy. Wondering how the race plays out? The Superenduro B Road Race is a mix between a gravel grinder and a quasi-mountain bike enduro event, where only certain sections are timed, but the course is laid out on a mixture of pavement and gravel that is ideal for a cyclocross bike. California’s Grinduro is modeled in the same fashion.

Yes, it attempts to combine two of the fastest growing segments of bikes and bike racing: gravel and enduro. But it also looks like a fun day on the bike, and it’s not that different than how many of our group rides go anyway, right?
