Nats Day 2 – Early Morning

It’s a balmy 9 degrees (!) this morning in Bend as we are getting prepped for lots of racing action.

10-12 girls and 13-14 girls are just getting ready.

10 competitors in the younger group, 12 in the 13-14 year olds

15-16s just underway

Rivera with holeshot followed by antonneau and Madeleine Myall

This race is going to be quite the showdown

Antonneau just went down! Rivera off the front, Ryan now in 2nd

Rivera just through finish, gets 3 to go with a 20 sec gap as she shakes out her cold hands.

Big gap back to 5 or 6 chasers all bunched up

Coryn Rivera with a 15 to 20 second gap over Antonneau and Kendall Ryan who are coming together.

Antonneau tried to pass on the stairs and there was a little body contact there as the riders tried to remount. Kendall Ryan remained calm and cool and held Antonneau off

Rivera is storming onto the pavement now with 2 laps to go

7:23 lap, just under 16.6 mph!

Kailin Antonneau now has a BIG gap in 2nd place, still about 20-25 seconds back

Kendall Ryan now a good 10 seconds back in 3rd

Sarah Wang coming through in front of Emily shields followed by Alexis Ryan. Wang and Ryan are leading the 15-16 race, Shields is in 4th in the 17-18 event

World Champion and Olympic champion Kristin Armstrong is cheering these girls on down by the barriers – pretty darned cool!

Rivera just came flying up the stairs and down the off-camber grass section.

Still about 20 seconds to Antonneau

Antonneau uis pounding on the pedals though, she’s not done yet!

KKendall Ryan just cresting the steps, another 15 seconds back… then it’s a huge gap to 4th. Looks like the podium is established, we’ll see if they can close in on one another.

Big gap back to Kendall Ryan, but she’s solidly on the podium for 17/18s

Coryn Rivera gets the bell – ONE LAP TO GO!

Sarah Huang is killing the 15/16 field. She’s flying the Planet Bike flag, has passed a bunch of the older riders.

Alexis Ryan is next, then Emily Curley, daughter of Paul Curley – yesterday’s championship winner.

Rivera just motored by, up the stairs and screaming down the grass off-camber

Antonneau came through about 30 seconds back. We’re still waiting for Ryan.

Here comes Kendall Ryan

Sarah Huang is in the lead and is the defending champ in the 15-16 group.
