Pétange, Luxembourg – While many of the men’s stars were at the GP Sven Nys, Americans Jonathan Page and Molly Cameron made the trip to Luxembourg to join Georgia Gould, Sue Butler, and Christine Vardaros at the Grand Prix du Nouvel.
In the women’s race, Georgia Gould (Luna) upset former world champion Marianne Vos (DSB Bank) by nearly a minute to take her first European cyclocross win. North Americans had a great showing, with Canadians Wendy Simms (Kona) and Natasha Elliott (Stevens) in fourth and fifth, respectively, Sue Butler (Monavie-Cannondale.com) in sixth, and Christine Vardaros in twelfth.
In the men’s race, the French swept the podium, with Steve Chainel, representing his new turqoise Bouygues Telecom jeresey for the first time, leading compatriots Duval (UV Aube) and Bazin (Apiflo Differdange) to a podium sweep. Jonathan Page finished 6th in his return to the race that was his first European UCI win in 2005.
