Holiday Shopping, Black Friday Rush, by Bohphoto on flickrIt’s the time of year for Thanksgiving and holiday shopping. Columnist Ryan Kelly reflects on the how it’s important during this time to give thanks and remember those who have helped you out throughout the year.

by Ryan Kelly

With the holiday shopping season upon us, it’s time to be thankful, and I am the first to remember this. So I thought it would be helpful for me to create a list of people and organizations who ought to be thankful and remember me during any upcoming five-hour mall excursions. Why, you ask, should they be giving me any gifts? Hopefully I’ll make my case below. [More...]

Cyclocross Magazine’s Online Store - Gear, Apparel, Gifts

Getting up at 5 a.m.? Looking for parking, waiting in lines, and pushing and shoving in the heat of competition? Even though that may sound pretty similar to a ‘cross race, spending your day fighting other shoppers at the mall for the holeshot is the last thing most ‘crossers enjoy.

So don’t do it. Spend a few minutes to buy your buddies, friends and kids some cyclocross gifts through our brand new online store, and then go for a ride instead knowing your shopping is already done.

What Black Friday? It’s a lot brighter when you’re on your bike.

Note: Orders are fulfilled by the highly capable (and judging by their prices, fairly compensated) staff at Cafe Press, so our grubby hands won’t mess up a thing. They’ll arrive by Christmas, guaranteed, and if you act now, you can hook up your racing buddies before the season’s over. So head on over.

fter weeks of having a busy weekend schedule, international cyclocross is taking a bit of an after-thanksgiving break, only offering up one major race this weekend. While those of us in America are recovering from too much turkey and stuffing, rather than racing in major UCI ranked races, the Europeans have a World Cup event that they have to swallow. [More...]

Sunday’s Ed Brophy Memorial Cross for Life, a chilly roller-coaster of a race in Woodstock, IL, brought a fierce battle for the win in the Women’s 1/2/3 field and a landslide victory in the Men’s 1/2/3. Fans were out in force with the not-USAC-legal hot dog and beverage handups, and some vicious transitions from grass to pavement had riders running for the pit. The race benefited the Leukemia Society and organizers from North Branch Cycling put their hearts into building a hilly course with some great singletrack sections and some steep but serious climbs. Sponsor, Results or Luck Be Dammed: A Time to Give Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving! On the day to give thanks, we serendipitously have a reader-submitted race report that seems a bit appropriate for the holiday.

Heading into last weekend for the sixth, and penultimate, race in the Seattle Cyclocross series, our team was a little down. Our primary sponsor had informed us that with the outcome of the recent elections, and what he believed was the inevitability of the resulting tax increases, they could no longer sponsor our cycling team. This made the recent election results and the current financial crisis even more personal. Without tipping our hat we knew we would be doing some “team shopping,” to see where our futures may take us. [More...]
