‘Cross Goodies in Vegas

September 30th, 2007   Filed Under cyclocross news, cyclocross technology

So we’ve heard from many of you that you’re interested in bike technology, especially new equipment and what the pro’s are using, but also what’s affordable and useful for the average rider. So we combed Interbike looking for all things ‘cross, and have an in-depth report coming in our print magazine. But here’s just a sampling of what we saw at the big show.

Overall Trends:
For many companies, ‘cross is not just a one-model market. Many companies including Kona, Bianchi, Jamis, Ridley, and Redline were displaying a handful of models. Jamis was displaying four models, one for every budget:

Redline showed off five models, including their new Team:

SRAM Everywhere:
Many new models showcased SRAM’s road groups, especially the Rival group. This Bianchi Cross Concept is one such model:

New Models:
Salsa knows a lot of us see a lot of mud, and like steel frames, and don’t race UCI races. So they unveiled a new steel La Cruz model, DISC-ONLY!

Christian Huele and Wendy Williams Win Star Crossed in Seattle

September 22nd, 2007   Filed Under 'cross race results, cyclocross news, racing

Tonight we were fortunate to get live race results from our guy in Seattle, Sean Horita.
Trebon Pinning Up - by Sean HoritaDJs - by Sean HoritaChristian Huele, the Switzerland Cyclocross National Champion and 6th ranked rider in the world, won tonight’s FSA Star Crossed race in Seattle, besting Ryan Trebon (Kona) in a close sprint. Barry Wicks (Kona) led most of the race, before stacking it in a turn coming off the velodrome on the 4th lap. Huele attacked after Wicks crashed, forcing Trebon to chase. Wicks eventually caught back up to the leading two, and pulled hard at the front before blowing on the last lap. Coming into the final, Trebon led out the sprint, with Heuele coming around to take the race by less than a wheel. Comeback boy Andy Jacques-Mayne finished an amazing fourth place in his first big race back after his horrific crash this summer. [More…]

So while we’re working on getting all the pieces together for our first issue, we’re trying not to lose sight of one of the reasons we’re doing this: to help grow the sport we love. We have a ton of ideas on how to do this, whether through donations of product or money to USA Cycling earmarked for cyclocross or juniors, working with promoters to increase junior turn-out, or working with grass roots clubs to get a bike or entry fees to kids who can’t afford these otherwise. We believe ‘cross is the most accessible form of racing for everyone - as you can do it on most any bike, and events are not way out in the boonies like a lot of road and mtb races. [More…]

Shameless…

Check out this shameless act of marketing I put together this weekend.  It’s the pit bike with a cheap frame and some nice parts, so I figured why mess around and get the word out of our little upstart mag?

We goofed! (& get on our Feedburner list)

We used a wordpress plugin to send out updates to this blog - it turns out our ISP doesn’t like us sending out mailing lists from their servers so we need to switch how we are doing this. You may have noticed that early last week we added the Feedburner subscription module to the right column, we’re now going to use feedburner to alert those who are interested in our blog updates. We’re going to take our list of subscribers and add them to the feedburner list so they can still enjoy email notifications for blog updates. [More…]
